Israel targets more than 50 villages in southern Lebanon, including with phosphorus munitions

BEIRUT — Fighting and bombardments between Hezbollah and Israel continued in southern Lebanon, intensifying and causing civilian casualties, including three journalists and nine rescue workers and two Lebanese Army soldiers.

Israeli warplanes bombed 53 villages, while Israeli drones targeted 13 localities, and 16 villages were subjected to artillery fire, with some shells containing phosphorus, our correspondent reports.

Hezbollah, meanwhile, said that it had conducted 35 offensive operations, hitting 7 tanks, 11 localities and a military base, as well as launching 17 rocket attacks against Israeli forces in the areas where they are deployed.

Regarding its operations on Saturday, Hezbollah said that at 9:50 p.m. it struck the Israeli locality of Nahariya with a barrage of rockets, then at 10:15 p.m. the locality of Hanita with kamikaze drones. At 11:45 p.m., the group fired a salvo of rockets at the Chemer base, an air defense and anti-missile base located 75 kilometers from the Lebanese border. The Regavim base, located 65 kilometers from Lebanon and housing training camps for the Golani Brigade, was also hit by a volley of rockets.

The Israeli air force conducted strikes at dawn against the villages of Shaqra, Tiri (Bint Jbeil) and Jwayya (Sour). Artillery bombardments also hit the Wadi Slouqi valley (between the districts of Bint Jbeil and Marjayoun), as well as Kabrikha (Marjayoun) and Majdal Selm, Safad al-Batikh, Shaqra, Braasheet, Beit Yahoun, Haris (Bint Jbeil) and Haddatha (Bint Jbeil district). Earlier, at around 4 a.m., three airstrikes hit homes in Kafra (Bint Jbeil). Previous airstrikes had targeted Jwayya (Sour district), Aabba and Habboush (Nabatieh).

At dawn on Sunday, Hezbollah claimed a new series of attacks. It said it struck the Israeli Beria base, north of Safed, at 2 a.m. using kamikaze drones. This is said to be one of the main bases used by the northern command for air defense and anti-missile operations. At 2:25 a.m., a barrage of rockets hit the Michve Allon base, southwest of Safed. Hezbollah then hit the Israeli site of Malikiya, opposite the Lebanese locality of Aita al-Shaab (Bint Jbeil), at 2:30 and 2:45 a.m. with several rocket salvos.

At 2:30 a.m., the Shiite group targeted with artillery an Israeli armored vehicle that was trying to recover a damaged vehicle in Deir Siryane (Marjayoun). A volley of rockets also struck the locality of Metula. At 6:05 a.m., the Rawiya base in the occupied Golan was attacked by Hezbollah using kamikaze drones. Finally, the pro-Iranian group fired a series of rockets at the Israeli locality of Chtoula, then another at the contested village of Ghajar.

Yesterday’s death toll includes at least twenty civilians killed, and victims after strikes on the localities of Haniyeh (Sour), Nabatieh, Haddatha (Bint Jbeil), Mayfadoun (Nabatieh), Deir Zahrani, Kfar Tibnit (Nabatieh), Zawtar, while rubble removal and evacuation of the wounded continue.

Additionally, nine rescue workers were killed in strikes that hit ambulances belonging to the Islamic Health Authority linked to Hezbollah, and the Al-Rissala Scouts Association affiliated with Amal, in Kfar Tibnit, Zawtar Gharbieh (Nabatieh district) and Ghandourieh (Bint Jbeil). Two Lebanese army soldiers were killed in a strike on Deir Zahrani (Nabatieh), our correspondent in southern Lebanon reported.

In its latest daily report, the Ministry of Health reported at least 47 killed and 112 others wounded in Israeli attacks on Saturday. This brings the total number of victims to 1,189 killed and 3,427 wounded in Lebanon since the start of the Israeli offensive on March 2.

Finally, the Israeli army announced Sunday morning the "combat death" of a soldier, the fifth to be killed since the resumption of hostilities with Hezbollah.
