SOUTH LEBANON — Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon increased overnight into Sunday, including a new Israeli incursion in Deir Mimas (Marjayoun district).
Residents told our correspondent in the South that an Israeli force entered the outskirts of the village where the Lebanese Army had established a position, and proceeded to search several houses. Occupying Israeli forces also entered and searched a house at the village's entrance.
According to residents, Israeli vehicles damaged electricity poles as they moved through the area.
A tense standoff erupted Friday between the Lebanese and Israeli armies near the same village. Israeli armored vehicles advanced toward Deir Mimas, forcing the Lebanese Army to withdraw from a new position it had established. The situation eventually de-escalated. The village is still populated despite being in the Israeli-imposed "buffer zone."
On Sunday morning, an Israeli demolition was reported in Tayr Harfa (Sour), and four others in Majdal Zoun (Sour). Israeli artillery shelling targeted Beit Yahoun toward Braasheet and Haddatha (Bint Jbeil), as Israeli gunfire on Majdal Zoun (Sour) was also reported.
In a separate incident, a child was injured in the village of Debaal (Sour) when unexploded ammunition was triggered.
In a separate development, the Lebanese Army announced on Sunday that 70 containers of various types of ammunition were received at Beirut Port as part of U.S. assistance programs for the Lebanese Army.
"The shipment comes within the framework of continued U.S. support for the military. This assistance is particularly important at the current stage, given the scale of responsibilities shouldered by the army and the challenges it faces, while also helping enhance its capabilities, particularly for missions carried out across Lebanon," it added.
On Saturday night and Sunday at dawn, Israeli airstrikes hit Kfar Tibnit and Nabatieh Fawqa (Nabatieh).
Occupying Israeli forces also carried out at least 10 explosions in Mansouri (Sour), and others in Wadi Mazlam on the outskirts of Beit Lif (Bint Jbeil), Qantara toward Wadi Slouqi (Marjayoun), Zawtar Sharqieh (Nabatieh), and the outskirts of Kfar Tibnit.
Israeli machine-gun fire also hit Srifa (Sour), Mansouri, Zawtar Sharqieh, Wadi Slouqi, and Aita al-Jabal (Bint Jbeil). Israeli artillery shelling targeted the outskirts of Zawtar Sharqieh, Kfar Tibnit, Wadi Zibqine (Sour), Wadi Slouqi, Braasheet, Touline (Marjayoun), a wooded area in Aita al-Jabal, Beit Yahoun (Bint Jbeil), as well as Bani Hayan, Tallousa, and Touline toward Wadi Hujeir (all in Marjayoun).
For months now, the Israeli army has been demolishing the towns and villages it occupies in southern Lebanon. Meanwhile, the Lebanese-Israeli negotiations mediated by Washington have been facing major challenges, with the last round, initially set for this month, postponed to October.
