BEIRUT — Southern Lebanon, North Bekaa and Beirut’s southern suburbs endured a night from hell Thursday evening to Friday morning, targeted by dozens of airstrikes carried out by Israel against what it claimed were "Hezbollah infrastructures."

Here is a look back at the bombings as documented by our two correspondents, and summarized in an interactive map created by L’Orient-Le Jour.

In the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital, 10 to 11 strikes targeted the neighborhoods of Jamous (near the Hashem gas station), Msharrafieh, Haret Hreik, Maamoura, Kafa’ate and Burj al-Barajneh. Israel said it targeted "the headquarters of the group's Executive Council" and a warehouse where drones were stored.

Southern Lebanon was particularly hit had, both south and north of the Litani River.

South of the river, three strikes were carried out in Srifa (Sour), killing one person. The localities of Kfar Kila, Toulin and Khiam (Marjayoun), Yater, Hanine and Aitaroun (Bint Jbeil) were also bombed.

North of the Litani, in the Nabatieh district, the strikes targeted the villages of Hallousiyeh, killing two people, and Toul, where three buildings and a mosque were destroyed, as well as Kfar Tebnit, Kfour, Habboush, Kfar Roummane and Kfar Tebnit. The city of Nabatieh was also hit by a strike.

The Saida district was also hit by Israeli strikes that targeted the villages of Kharayeb and Saksakieh, where a three-story building was destroyed in the al-Marj neighborhood, as well as the offices of the news website Saksakiyeh News. Similarly, in Anqoun, a two-story building was destroyed.

In Mashghara, a city in western Bekaa, four people were killed, including two brothers from the Ghazali family, Qassem and Ibrahim. Their mother was seriously wounded.

In North Bekaa, the bombardments targeted three villages in the Baalbek district, a Hezbollah stronghold: Brital, where two strikes hit a house and its garage, injuring two people — a woman and a child — as well as Douris and Nabi Sheet.

On the third day of the U.S.-Israeli offensive against Iran, Hezbollah dragged Lebanon into the war by launching, at 1 a.m. on the night of March 1 to 2, and for the first time since the cease-fire concluded in November 2024, an attack on a military site in the southern Israeli city of Haifa, in retaliation for the assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Israel responded with powerful airstrikes around 2:40 a.m. on Beirut's southern suburbs and several regions of South Lebanon and the Bekaa, claiming to be targeting Hezbollah infrastructure.

The situation continues to escalate.
