The Israeli army carried out a series of strikes Sunday in southern Lebanon and the Bekaa, killing two people and injuring several others.
In the afternoon, Israeli fighter jets launched a powerful strike, using two missiles, on an area between Kfar Dounin and Bir al-Salassel (Bint Jbeil), according to our correspondent in southern Lebanon.
Mechanic from Bazourieh killed
Jawad Basma, a local from Bazourieh (Sour), was killed in the strike, while five others were wounded. The strike targeted a warehouse and an adjacent one-room structure, destroying both buildings. Damage was reported in neighboring buildings, including a clinic whose windows were shattered.

Another strike had targeted a warehouse in the same area just over a month ago, also killing two people, our correspondent recalls.
The strikes were immediately claimed by the Israeli army. Its Arabic-language spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, claimed, without evidence, that Israel had targeted Hezbollah infrastructure in South Lebanon and the Bekaa. In the Bint Jbeil region, it claimed it had targeted members of the party "operating at a weapons production site."
Residents pointedly refuted such claims telling our correspondent the targeted warehouse was used to repair construction vehicles and cars and contained no weapons. Video footage of the destruction following the strike, taken by a local and sent to L'Orient Today by our correspondent, purports to show only destroyed construction materials.
According to them, the victim of the strike was the owner of the building who worked at the mechanical shop as a mechanic. Hezbollah did, however, acknowledge that Basma was a member of the party and announced his burial for Monday afternoon in his hometown of Bazourieh (Sour).
Teacher from Arzoun killed
The Israeli army also targeted, with two missiles, a car between Barish and Derdghaya (Sour), our correspondent reports. The driver of the targeted vehicle was transported to a hospital in critical condition, and later succumbed to his injuries.
He was identified as Mohammad al-Husseini, a teacher at the al-Mabarrat educational association from Arzoun (Sour). The Israeli army also claimed this strike, saying it had targeted an "operative" in South Lebanon.

Strikes on the Bekaa and low altitude fighter jets
The Bekaa region was not spared either. Two Israeli missiles hit Sunday the Shaara area in Janta (Baalbeck), injuring one person, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry. A later strike hit the Janta jurd area (in the same region), according to our correspondent in the Bekaa.
Elsewhere, Israeli fighter jets flew at low altitude over the skies of southern Lebanon and the Bekaa throughout the afternoon, according to our correspondents in both regions.
Residents demand to return to their villages in South Lebanon
Residents from the border villages of Dhaira, Yarin, Bsatine, Zalloutieh, and Marwanieh held a sit-in at noon in Dhaira al-Tahta (Sour) to demand the safe return to their villages, our correspondent reports.
The protest was quickly dispersed when Israeli army drones began to fly over the area. One drone fired a bomb on the site after the demonstrators left, causing no injuries.
In the afternoon, an Israeli army Merkava tank crossed the border wall at Misgav Am, occupying Lebanese territory to position itself facing a newly established Lebanese Army checkpoint in the Khallet al-Mahafer area, south of Odaisseh (Marjayoun).
This is the second time Israeli soldiers have conducted this kind of provocative maneuver in front of the Lebanese Army at this same location, according to our correspondent. Also in the Odaisseh area, an ambulance belonging to the Islamic Mission scouts (Amal movement paramedics) came under Israeli army fire, with no injuries reported.
More attacks throughout the day
The Israeli army increased its attacks throughout the day. An Israeli drone dropped a stun grenade on Aita al-Shaab (Bint Jbeil), while another drone that had fallen earlier in Kfar Kila (Marjayoun) was later found on site.
The town of Odaisseh (Marjayoun) was also targeted by Israeli gunfire. The Israeli army fired five artillery shells on the outskirts of Marwanieh (Sour) and fired a bomb from a drone on Markaba (Marjayoun) and near the public park of Maroun al-Ras (Bint Jbeil).
Israeli artillery fire also targeted Ain al-Zarqa, between Tayr Harfa (Bint Jbeil) and Alma al-Shaab (Sour), according to our correspondent. Overnight, an Israeli artillery shell had hit the outskirts of Kfar Shuba in the Hasbaya district.
Despite the truce reached between Israel and Hezbollah on Nov. 27, 2024, the Israeli army continues to occupy at least five positions on Lebanese territory and continues its near-daily attacks on southern Lebanon and the Bekaa, with the occasional strike on the southern suburbs of Beirut as well.
On Wednesday, Israel pounded several localities in South Lebanon, causing at least 19 injuries and displacing 50 families.
The Lebanon cease-fire monitoring committee (the so-called “mechanism”) is temporarily on hold, with two previously scheduled January meetings have been postponed, leaving the fate of the next phase of the cease-fire deal unknown while Israel continues to strike Lebanon and kill with impunity.
