BEIRUT — Lebanese police said Sunday they arrested a man on May 22 at Beirut Airport for carrying a large amount of drugs in his luggage and inside swallowed capsules after arriving from an African country.
In the details of this operation, reported in a statement from the Internal Security Forces (ISF), intelligence services had remotely monitored a man, R.H, a Lebanese national born in 1971. He was suspected of wanting to introduce a large quantity of drugs into Lebanon. Upon his arrival at the airport, the suspect was apprehended by security services: agents seized 1.08 kilos of cocaine from him in disguised soap or perfume bottles.
Even more surprising, an X-ray of the suspect's body revealed the presence of 65 capsules containing powdered cocaine in his stomach, with a total weight of 769 grams.
The suspect was arrested, and the investigation continues to uncover other members of what appears to be an international narcotics trafficking network.
