In parallel with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun’s surprise visit to southern Lebanon, Israeli forces continued their attacks Saturday, carrying out an explosion in Qantara (Marjayoun), according to L’Orient Today’s correspondent in southern Lebanon.
Israeli forces also carried out a heavy explosion in Mansouri (Sour), where repeated demolitions and explosions have become a daily occurrence. Israeli artillery fire also targeted the town, according to our correspondent.
In the central sector, Israeli forces carried out an explosion in Ainata (Bint Jbeil), while Israeli artillery fire targeted Mais al-Jabal (Marjayoun). Israeli military vehicles were also seen moving in Qantara, according to our correspondent.
Overnight Friday, Israeli artillery fire targeted several areas in southern Lebanon, including Nabatieh al-Fawqa (Nabatieh), according to our correspondent.
The municipalities of Rmeich, Ain Ebel and Debel, three Christian villages in the Bint Jbeil district, issued an “urgent appeal” Friday evening for the regular resumption of humanitarian convoys serving the villages and their roughly 10,000 remaining residents.
The municipalities said four convoys prepared this week had been canceled “despite the completion of the required procedures,” without a clear or unified explanation from the relevant authorities.
Nabatieh municipality outlines demands during Aoun visit
Nabatieh municipality said Saturday that Aoun’s visit to the city included a meeting with security officials and local authorities to discuss the city’s security, administrative and service needs.
Municipal officials called for the release of municipal funds, the appointment of a permanent governor for Nabatieh, stronger security support, a fairer distribution of aid, a new Civil Defense center and the prioritization of reconstruction and repairs to damaged homes.
The municipality said Aoun’s visit demonstrated the state’s support for residents of the South and was important to strengthening the city’s resilience and restoring vital services.
