Prime Minister Nawaf Salam conducted an inspection tour at Beirut airport on Tuesday morning, reported the state-run National News Agency (NNA).
Salam was accompanied by Public Works Minister Fayez Rassamny and Tourism Minister Laura al-Khazen Lahoud. His tour comes as the airport has recently been in the spotlight following accusations of money trafficking on behalf of Hezbollah.
The Prime Minister met with the airport's security director, General Fady Kfoury, as well as several airport officials. Discussions focused on security measures implemented at the airport and the facilitation of passenger arrivals and departures, with the aim of reducing waiting times inside the airport. Participants also discussed cooperation between the various security services at the airport.
This tour comes as a project to rehabilitate the road linking the airport with the capital was launched about a month ago. The infrastructure along this road, which runs through the southern suburbs, was heavily damaged during the Israeli offensive against Lebanon in recent months.
President Joseph Aoun conducted several inspection tours last month, notably at the Port of Beirut and the Dekwaneh vehicle registration center, east of the capital, which has long been closed, particularly amid corruption investigations.
