A construction project near the Sour Reserve in southern Lebanon, on land belonging to the Ministry of Defense and intended for the military, has been sparking controversy for several days, with activists concerned about possible encroachment on the biodiversity-rich buffer zone. A civil campaign called "Protect Sour’s Beach and Reserve" has demanded this week, in a statement, "the immediate halt of ongoing work on public land along the Sour Nature Reserve."The campaign, led by many local activists, mentions in its text "encroachments not only on the buffer zone (for protection) of the reserve, but also on the historical and cultural heritage of this region rich in relics."
