Constitutional Council strikes hard, invalidating the law
On Tuesday, the Constitutional Council decided to annul the law passed on Nov. 28, 2024, which retroactively and selectively extended senior judges’ term of office.

In a country where the rule of law is regularly flouted, a breach was opened on Tuesday in the wall of the politico-judicial practices that are tantamount to violations of the Constitution and laws. The Constitutional Council decided to invalidate the controversial law of Nov. 28, 2024, which extended the expired terms of office of senior judges and selectively postponed the retirement of others. The invalidation was voted unanimously by nine of the council’s 10 members.
