The meeting between French President Emmanuel Macron and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Thursday was a major event; as much for Europe, which is facing an unprecedented energy crisis, as it was for the crown prince, who is somewhat trying to restore his image in the eyes of the West. This was MBS’s first visit to Paris since Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi was assassinated in 2018 in his country’s consulate in Istanbul. Yet the visit does not have major consequences on Lebanon.In any case, this visit will not bring anything new, as the position of each of them has remained unchanged when it comes to the demands for reforms as a prelude to any ultimate support from both Paris and Riyadh to a country facing a total collapse.Officially, the meeting was mainly aimed at “intensifying cooperation” to “ease the effects of the war in...
