Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Saturday that his country supports a ‘‘political process’’ to resolve the conflict between Saudi Arabia and the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen.

After years of relative calm, fighting resumed in Yemen in July, with Saudi Arabia providing military support to government forces battling the Houthis, who have launched attacks against the kingdom.

’’We support the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Yemen, as well as those of Saudi Arabia. We support an inclusive and comprehensive political process, which is the only realistic and sustainable way to solve the problem,’’ Araghchi said in a speech in Baghdad before the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Araghchi reiterated Iran’s offer to mediate between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis. His deputy, Saeed Khatibzadeh, had previously said Riyadh had yet to respond to the proposal.

Iran denied any involvement in Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia on Friday, following accusations by Riyadh a day earlier that Tehran was ‘‘encouraging’’ an ‘‘intensification’’ of the Houthis’ military operations.

The scale of the Houthis’ recent attacks, particularly those targeting Saudi oil infrastructure and airports, is unprecedented since the war began in 2014.

Tehran has repeatedly denied directing the Houthis’ decisions or intervening in their decision-making, maintaining that the Yemeni movement acts in accordance with its own interests.

’’Either we build our security together, or we will suffer insecurity together,’’ Araghchi added Saturday, saying Iran was ready ‘‘to cooperate with all its brothers and neighbors to achieve the first option.’’
