BEIRUT — The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday condemned threats made by the Houthis against Saudi Arabia, as well as recent Iranian attacks targeting Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait, amid rising regional tensions following the resumption of hostilities between Iran and the United States.
In a statement, Lebanese diplomats denounced “in the strongest terms” the threats issued by the Yemeni rebels, who on Wednesday began imposing restrictions on maritime navigation in the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, forcing nine ships to turn back off the Yemeni coast. The ministry described these actions as a “flagrant violation of international law” and United Nations Security Council resolutions.
Bustros Palace also reiterated the need to “guarantee freedom of navigation and fully implement international resolutions” in order to support Yemen’s internationally recognized authorities and secure the withdrawal of the Houthis from the areas they control.
It also condemned the “recent Iranian attacks” against Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait, describing them as “a violation of the sovereignty of these states and a threat to regional security and stability.”
These countries, along with other Gulf states, have been targeted almost daily by missile or drone strikes from Iran since hostilities between Iran and the United States resumed on July 7.
