And now? What will Hezbollah do? If the latter, a local satellite of Iran, has so far refrained from intervening in the ongoing Israel-Iran war, the U.S. strike on Iranian nuclear sites on Sunday, which marked Washington’s official intervention in the war, certainly can change the situation. The option of seeing Tehran turn to its armed wings in the region is seemingly increasingly likely.But the Lebanese leadership is determined: it is the state, and the state alone, that holds the decision of peace and war. Hezbollah must therefore show wisdom and avoid adventures whose consequences would be disastrous.At the same time, calls to disarm the militia have become increasingly audible, even though there is no reason to believe that concrete steps can be expected in the near future.
