After a 90-minute interrogation, Top Prosecutor Jamal Hajjar released former Economy Minister Amin Salam on Thursday without closing the investigation involving “forgery, embezzlement of public funds and blackmailing insurance companies.”These allegations were made against Salam by the parliamentary Economic Committee, chaired by MP Farid Boustany, which submitted a request two months ago to open a judicial investigation. The committee accused Salam of signing contracts with foreign companies for excessive amounts disproportionate to the services provided and of using funds from the Insurance Companies’ Contribution Fund — under the ministry’s supervision — for personal purposes.
