After mounting controversy, EDL orders chemical waste in Bisri and Zahle to be exported

BEIRUT — After days of controversy and public concern over locally handling tons of chemical waste dating to 2021 and transferred to Bisri and Zahle last year, the Board of Directors of Électricité du Liban (EDL) on Wednesday ordered the materials to be exported from Lebanon, regardless of the cost, according to a decision announced following a government meeting. EDL’s decision appears to bring the dispute over the materials’ treatment to an end, but questions remain over how they were transferred and handled in Lebanon in the first place. Contacted Thursday by L'Orient Today, the Environment ministry was not immediately available to comment EDL's decision.
