BEIRUT — Posters and banners installed on public property have begun to be removed from Beirut as part of an initiative to make the Lebanese capital “a city free of sectarian and partisan slogans,” the municipality’s public relations service announced Tuesday.“Following the instructions of Interior Minister Ahmad al-Hajjar, the governor of the city of Beirut, Marwan Abboud, has tasked the Municipal Guard Regiment and the Beirut Fire Brigade to coordinate their efforts to remove posters, banners, photos, flags, and advertisements placed on public property along the road connecting downtown Beirut to the Camille Chamoun Sports City, in both directions,” the statement said.
