The Lebanese Army’s role at the funerals of Nasrallah and Safieddine

Many observers were impressed by former Hezbollah leaders Hassan Nasrallah and Hashem Safieddine’s funerals’ organization. This was especially notable as no incidents were reported despite the large crowd, which came from several countries, and the tension in the country. This was certainly due to Hezbollah’s desire to organize a ceremony without the slightest hitch, but also and especially to the Lebanese Army’s role in maintaining order and preventing friction between Hezbollah’s supporters and those hostile to it.The Lebanese Army assumed a major role on Sunday, with soldiers deployed throughout the Camille Chamoun Sports City Stadium and its surrounding “sensitive” areas until the evening — visible to all funeral attendees, whether or not they entered the stadium grounds.
