It was Wafiq Safa, the head of Hezbollah’s Liaison and Coordination Unit, who finally relayed Hezbollah’s position. “We have no veto on army chief Joseph Aoun,” he said from Beirut’s southern suburbs on Sunday. “Our only veto is on [Lebanese Forces (LF) Leader] Samir Geagea, because he represents a project of discord and destruction for the country.”Hezbollah’s categorical “no” to the LF leader comes as no surprise, as Geagea is Hezbollah’s first local adversary.
