Is constitutional amendment a real obstacle to Joseph Aoun’s election?
Several constitutional experts and political figures believe that the army chief’s election to the presidency would first be through a political agreement, as was the case in 2008.

Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri said a few weeks ago, “We are not going to amend the Constitution to get anyone elected.” These remarks seemed to be blocking the way of Lebanese Army chief Joseph Aoun to the presidential palace.
