That was the strategy promoted by U.S. President Donald Trump during his first term in 2017, in a meeting of the international coalition against terrorism in Syria and Iraq.He sought a non-military approach to confront Iran. In line with this, he withdrew from the nuclear deal and made several highly pro-Israel decisions, including declaring Israel as the nation-state for Jewish people, recognizing Jerusalem as its capital (instead of Tel Aviv), relocating the U.S. embassy there, and acknowledging Israel’s annexation of the Syrian Golan Heights.
