Behind the misery of the displaced, a small breath of relief for Beirut's hoteliers
Since the intensification of strikes on Lebanon, budget hotels have reported occupancy rates between 70% and 100%, compared to 40% to 50% for 4- and 5-star establishments.
"A tiny breath of fresh air." That’s how Ramzi Assily, General Manager of the Crowne Plaza, a five-star hotel in the Hamra district of Beirut, summarizes the current situation for hoteliers in the capital. Since the intensification of strikes on Lebanon over the past three weeks, more than a million people have fled high-risk areas, seeking refuge in safer regions. Among them, some have opted to stay in hotels."We are fully booked, with occupancy rates consistently between 95% and 100%," says Fahd Shuman, manager of Bliss 3000, a three-star hotel in Bliss, Beirut. It offers stays starting at $45 per night for long-term stays. The same goes for the Mozart Hotel, another three-star establishment in the capital, where a night costs around $50 under similar conditions.
