The IMEC corridor was launched at the 2023 G20 summit in New Delhi through a memorandum of understanding between governments that expresses a political commitment rather than imposing obligations.

The Beirut and Tripoli ports officially joined the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) Ports Club on Tuesday.During a visit to the Indian capital this week, the two ports’ board chairmen, Marwan Naffi — also the Beirut Port's general manager — and Iskandar Bandali, signed the club’s joint declaration. The club already brings together more than a dozen port areas. They also attended its first workshop alongside other members of the organization, an initiative of the Grand Port Maritime de Marseille (Marseille Fos) and India’s leading port operator, Adani Ports.
