BEIRUT — Banque du Liban (BDL, central bank) announced Tuesday that it had appointed Nassib Ghobril as its chief economist. Ghobril will lead and develop its Economic Research and Analysis Department, overseeing studies and analyses and the publication of annual and quarterly reports, according to a statement issued by the central bank.
The appointment strengthens BDL’s ability to formulate policies based on "in-depth economic research and comprehensive data analysis," the statement said. The newly created position represents "a qualitative addition to the bank’s specialized structure," reinforcing "the role of economic expertise in decision-making," it added.
Who is Ghobril ?
"Ghobril brings more than 25 years of experience in monitoring the Lebanese economy and analyzing its developments, alongside extensive expertise in economic and financial research and in building and managing research teams," the statement said.
Ghobril had served as chief economist and head of economic research and analysis at Byblos Bank since 2006. Before joining the bank, he led research at Lebanon Invest, Groupe Saradar and the Audi-Saradar Group.
According to his biography on the Lebanese American University (LAU)’s website, he established and developed the research departments at Byblos Bank and Groupe Saradar and has published analytical reports on Lebanon and regional markets.
Ghobril holds degrees from the American University of Beirut (AUB), American University in Washington, D.C., and Thunderbird School of Global Management.
