Since the conflict erupted in southern Lebanon last October, adjacent to the Gaza war, Israeli fighter jets have repeatedly broken the sound barrier over Lebanese air space, particularly over Beirut in recent days. They have caused loud explosions, spreading fear among residents. Occasionally, they have led to injuries and property damage.
This "sonic boom" seems to be part of Israel’s psychological warfare against Lebanon.
Here is the sonic boom, explained.
The most significant damage from a sonic boom has been recorded in southern Lebanon, where a mother and her son in Nabatieh were hospitalized in early July after part of their roof collapsed.
However, General Khalil Helou explains that normally that should not be the case. The roof must have collapsed because the building is simply not up to standard.
