Today, Tuesday, August 6 at 5:00 PM, Beirut time, the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, will deliver a speech a week after the Israeli strike in Haret Hreik, in the southern suburbs of Beirut - which you can follow LIVE here. It comes amidst growing fears that the region could be on the brink of an all-out war.

What to expect from the speech

Fouad Shukur was killed in an Israeli strike on Tuesday, July 30 in Haret Hreik, in the southern suburbs of Beirut. A few hours later, Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the political bureau of the Palestinian movement Hamas, died in an Israeli-attributed strike in Tehran, shortly after attending the inauguration of the new Iranian president, Masoud Pezeshkian.

The strike targeting Shukur is the second to hit Beirut's southern suburbs - an area where many members of Hezbollah live and operate - since the conflict began in October 2023, after the number two of Hamas, Saleh al-Arouri, was killed there in January. The Israeli message is clear, as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reminded on Wednesday evening: the state of Israel can strike anywhere, anytime. In this context, Hezbollah and Iran have promised to respond.

After ten months of conflict, and with a "red line" crossed by Israel, the rules of the game could change. In the region there will be a before and after the assassinations of Shukur and Haniyeh.
