Caretaker Lebanese Education Minister Abbas Halabi on Wednesday called on teachers to turn out "en masse" to correct official exams, after some of them announced their intention to boycott these corrections, and called for an increase in their salaries, promising these teachers to multiply their salaries "by four."

"The minister has decided to quadruple the remuneration in Lebanese Lira of the examiners, instead of multiplying it by three as he had previously indicated," reads a statement published on Wednesday. This decision was justified by the ministry by the fact that "the questions asked [during the exams] offer several choices of answer, which requires more time for the examiners."

The minister also invited teachers "to contribute to the feat of holding official exams in difficult conditions."
