The emergency room of the Islamic Hospital in Tripoli was attacked on Sunday night around midnight. Some of its equipment was destroyed by relatives of a man referred to by authorities as "A.Z.," who had been shot and was wanted by the authorities. The attackers secretly took him out of the hospital, according to a medical source cited by our North Lebanon correspondent.
"A.Z." was injured in the afternoon during a confrontation in the city that also involved another individual, "F.M.," who was hospitalized at the government hospital in Qibbeh, Tripoli.
"Both men were riding a motorcycle when someone shot at them," confirmed an informed security source, speaking anonymously, noting that such incidents are common in Tripoli.
Following the confusion caused by the incident, the army and security forces launched a search to find the fugitive and others involved in his escape from the hospital, setting up a security cordon around the institution. Once found, "A.Z." was arrested and brought back to the hospital under reinforced security.
The investigation is ongoing.
