Three suspects were arrested on Monday and Wednesday after a shooting incident on Monday wounded three people, including an official from Walid Jumblatt's Progressive Socialist Party (PSP), in the Zokak al-Blat district of Beirut, the Internal Security Forces (ISF) announced on their website, relayed on X, on Wednesday.
According to the ISF, on Monday an unknown man on a scooter fired several shots from a pistol at three young men in the neighborhood, including an unidentified PSP member. All three were wounded and taken to hospital for treatment. The gunman fled the scene.
The investigation determined that there were three perpetrators on two separate motorcycles. On one was the gunman, while two accomplices watched from the other.
The gunman was identified as A. I., a 24-year-old Lebanese national who was arrested on Monday, the same day as the incident. He initially denied involvement. “When confronted with the evidence, however, he admitted shooting the three men in revenge, and claimed that around two weeks earlier, these individuals had arrested and beaten him on suspicion of theft,” explains the police.
The other two suspects apprehended were identified as A. I. and H. Ch, aged 30 and 28 respectively and both Lebanese. They were arrested on Wednesday, and an investigation was launched.
