BEIRUT – The death toll from clashes between Hezbollah and Israeli forces since early October now stands at 109, with hundreds of others injured, according to new Health Ministry data issued Wednesday morning.

Collated from hospital data, the Ministry of Public Health says that the latest toll, which consists of both injuries and fatalities, has risen to 492, comprising 109 fatalities and 110 hospitalizations with additional injured individuals not accounted for. The health ministry did not specify how many of these deaths were civilians and how many belonged to armed groups fighting along the border.

Of the total victims documented, which includes both those killed and injured, 92 percent are males. Additionally, Lebanese nationals represent 96 percent of the casualties, with 62 percent between the ages of 22 and 44. According to the ministry, the injuries incurred are mainly due to blunt trauma from Israeli bombings at 43 percent, exposure to blasts at 33 percent, and chemical agent contamination at 20 percent.

The ministry's communique also updated the situation of displacement in the south since fighting started on Oct. 8. Drawing on figures from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), it was reported that 64,053 individuals have been displaced. Additionally, 4,473 have received assistance in total, 443 in the last week alone. Medical consultations at health facilities amounted to 3,167 – with 280 occurring within the same timeframe—and mobile clinic consultations were at 1,479 and 220, respectively.

These tallies, consistently published by the Health Ministry since mid-November, rely on hospital records. However, there is an indication of gaps in these reports considering other on-the-ground data. L'Orient Today's Wednesday morning tally, based on announcements issued by Hezbollah since the war's outset, suggests the party alone has over 100 fighters in Lebanon over the two-month period.
