Beirut International Airport’s meteorological service recorded "more than 600 lightning flashes" overnight Monday night to Tuesday, most of which were in the north of Beirut.
The meteorological service also reported 20mm of rainfall in Beirut between Monday 8 a.m. and Tuesday 8 a.m.
"Torrential rains are likely to lead to the formation of torrents of water," warned the institution, urging people to exercise caution.
In Saida, roads flooded after the first rains on Tuesday morning, reported L'Orient Today's correspondent in the south. Jerusalem Square in Saida’s center was completely flooded. Cars were submerged in water, right up to their roofs.
"We've been calling on the local councilors to clean the drains before the rainy season. But they have done nothing. And our shops are flooded. We can't even get in to assess the damage," one shopkeeper told L'Orient Today.
In the Younine Road in Baalbek, a high-voltage transmission tower was severed by lightning, reported L'Orient Today's Bekaa correspondent.
