Tracy Chamoun to L’Orient-Le Jour: ‘I want to be a unifying president’

Tracy Chamoun, the former Lebanese ambassador to Jordan — and granddaughter of former president Camille Chamoun — officially announced on Monday her candidacy for the presidential election.She is the only woman to have joined this year’s presidential race so far.The former diplomat, who resigned after the Aug. 4, 2020 explosion, said in a press conference yesterday that she had stepped forward as a candidate. Her announcement followed that of economist Ziad Hayek, who announced last week that he was in the running.Two months before the end of President Michel Aoun’s six-year term, Chamoun says she has a program focused on reform, sovereignty and the fight against corruption.
