While Agriculture Minister Nizar Hani estimated last May that more than a fifth of Lebanon’s agricultural land had been affected since the outbreak of war with Israel in 2023 and the ongoing Israeli occupation, the Lebanese Center for Agricultural Research and Studies (CREAL) has analyzed the country’s agricultural trade balance for 2025 in a table sent to L’Orient-Le Jour.Measured in tons, the analysis shows that fruits generate exportable surpluses, while Lebanon remains dependent on imports of wheat and beef. The accompanying note, titled “The contribution of Lebanese agriculture to the country’s food security,” seeks to assess the sector’s ability to meet national needs.
