Unsurprisingly, Parliament renewed its confidence in Nawaf Salam’s government for the third time in 19 months. From the outset of the general policy debate on Tuesday and Wednesday, it was clear that the Cabinet’s downfall was not imminent — a reality all political parties recognize. That did not stop Hezbollah from signaling its discontent by withdrawing its MPs from the chamber during the vote to avoid granting the government its confidence.
