Since fighting resumed in Yemen between pro-Iranian Houthi rebels and pro-government forces backed by the Saudi-led Arab coalition, more than 500 people have been killed and 20,000 displaced. The escalation has also wounded more than 70 civilians in Saudi Arabia and targeted energy and military sites in the kingdom, effectively ending an informal truce that had held since 2022. The escalation is aimed at shifting the balance of power within Yemen, but it also reflects broader regional tensions as the war between the United States and Iran continues.
