Two inmates dead in four days in two Lebanese prisons

In the space of just four days, two inmates died in two Lebanese prisons in Roumieh and Zahle. These deaths, which occurred on Wednesday and then Saturday, have provoked outrage from the Committee of Prisoners' Families and the Lebanese Prisoners’ Rights Observatory. Both organizations issued statements condemning what they called the deplorable conditions in detention facilities and called for the adoption of the general amnesty law. Although passed by Parliament on Aug. 11, the bill has not yet been published in the Official Journal, pending its promulgation by President Joseph Aoun.
