Following a challenge by MP Elias Hankash, the administrative court ordered a stay of execution on the finance minister’s decision to transfer ownership of these properties to the state.

A first ruling was issued. The State Shura Council decided, in a preliminary ruling, to suspend the implementation of a circular issued by Finance Minister Yassin Jaber. The circular instructed land registrars, mokhtars, and cadastral officials to register public domain lands in several predominantly Christian areas under the name of the “Lebanese Republic,” rather than under the name of their original owners or the municipalities concerned.
