Lebanese, Syrian ministers discuss agricultural cooperation in Damascus

Agriculture Minister Nizar Hani concluded a two-day visit to Damascus, where he called for closer cooperation between Lebanon and Syria in the agricultural sector to strengthen regional food security.

Hani met with his Syrian counterpart, Bassel Soueidan, who called for a protocol to regulate agricultural trade between the two countries and facilitate the passage of trucks at border crossings, particularly during peak harvest seasons, while protecting farmers and producers.

The minister also attended the opening of the AgriTEK Syria exhibition, where he stressed the need for a "genuine partnership" based on shared expertise, innovation, sustainable resource management and expanded agricultural trade.

The visit follows recent trips to Damascus by Economy Minister Amer Bisat and Energy and Transport Minister Fayez Rassamny, as Lebanon and Syria seek to deepen ties following the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime.
