Early parliamentary elections: Will the LF's threat go beyond symbolism?

The day after Thursday's parliamentary session was aborted following the withdrawal of Lebanese Forces (LF) MPs, party leader Samir Geagea issued an unexpected threat. He announced that his party would introduce a bill to shorten the current Parliament's mandate — extended by two years last March, until 2028 — and thus trigger early elections.But while the war between Israel and Hezbollah gave the various political players a perfect excuse to avoid facing voters in May 2026, there is no indication that the LF's bill could actually lead to early elections.
