Six years after the start of Lebanon's economic collapse, and with the war between Hezbollah and Israel having devastated parts of the country since October 2023, L’Orient-Le Jour met Lebanese from different walks of life to understand how they have had to reinvent their daily lives and rethink their plans for the future in order to adapt to the country's new economic reality — if not simply to survive.For more than 30 years, his days were not his own. Odd hours. Night patrols. Holidays spent away from his family. "I would leave for work when my children were sleeping and come back when they were at school or already asleep," recalls Sami, a retired member of the Internal Security Forces.Back then, he believed it would be temporary, that his sacrifices would at least guarantee some form of long-term stability.
