Iran says it launches a ‘decisive operation’ against US targets
Iran has begun its retaliation by targeting U.S. interests in the Middle East following a fresh wave of attacks by the United States, the Iranian news agency Tasnim reported on Tuesday evening, as carried by AFP.
“A decisive operation carried out by the Iranian armed forces in retaliation against the American enemy has begun,” Tasnim wrote. “U.S. bases and interests in the region are being targeted by Iranian missiles and drones.”
Trump: Iran could be 'totally wiped out as a country'
U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday, in an interview with Fox News, threatened that Iran could be "totally wiped out as a country" if it were to respond to U.S. strikes.
“I think a deal with them wouldn’t even be worth the paper it’s written on. We’ve given them plenty of chances,” he said, according to comments reported by Fox News.
Explosion reported at key Iranian oil platform
An explosion was heard in the Asaluyeh region of Iran, a key oil platform on the Gulf coast, Reuters reports, citing the Fars news agency.
US oil prices surge by 5% following fresh strikes on Iran
Oil prices surged on Tuesday following fresh strikes carried out by Washington on Iran and threats from Donald Trump, with the price of a barrel of U.S. WTI crude breaking back above the $90 mark for the first time since late July.
At around 5.55 p.m. GMT, the price of a barrel of WTI was up 5.03% at $90.07, whilst that of its European equivalent, a barrel of Brent, rose 4.5% to $94.56.

Iran state TV says US targeted airport in south of country
The United States struck an airport in the southern Iranian province of Kerman on Tuesday, state television reported, as Washington announced a fresh wave of attacks.
"Minutes ago, the enemy U.S. attack targeted Jiroft airport," state television said, after reporting several strikes along the coast of the Strait of Hormuz and on Iranian islands in the Gulf.
US urges its nationals in the Middle East 'to exercise caution'
The U.S. State Department has urged U.S. nationals in the Middle East “to exercise increased caution and to be alert to flight cancellations, airspace closures, and potential disruptions.”
“Due to tensions in the Middle East, the security situation remains complex and there is a risk of unforeseen escalation,” the State Department said in a statement posted on social media.
“Americans traveling to or from the region should monitor updates on airport and flight operations. Iran and groups supporting it may target U.S. interests abroad or locations associated with the United States and Americans worldwide, including U.S. companies and other institutions,” it said.

Iran: 4 projectiles hit areas east of the Strait of Hormuz
Four projectiles have struck several areas east of the Strait of Hormuz, an Iranian official reported on Monday, as quoted by the official IRNA news agency, whilst the U.S. military announced further strikes against Iran.
The province of Sistan-Baluchistan (south-east), which had already been struck several times when hostilities resumed in July, was hit, according to regional official Ali Khalilabadi, who did not specify whether there had been any damage.
US military announces strikes against Iran
The U.S. military has announced it has launched strikes against targets belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Iran. “These strikes follow recent attempted attacks by the IRGC against commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and against US military personnel deployed in the region,” said CENTCOM.
Qatari mediator urges Iran, US to resume negotiations
The Qatari mediator called on the United States and Iran to return to the negotiating table after the first exchange of airstrikes between the two countries in a month.
"We said from day one that leaving the issue unresolved and attempting to normalize the closure of the Strait of Hormuz would lead to escalation," said Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari at a press briefing in Doha.
"We call on the parties to show wisdom and return to the negotiating table, and we continue to intensify our efforts with our partners" in this mediation, he added, referring to Pakistan and Oman.
An Israeli bulldozer demolishes homes in Mansouri
Explosions were caused in Rshaf, in the Bint Jbeil district, as well as in various neighborhoods of Houla, in the Marjayoun district.
In Mansouri, Israeli soldiers demolished homes with a bulldozer in the neighborhood known as "Rabeh."
Movements of Israeli military vehicles were also observed in Haddatha, where an Israeli drone also dropped a stun grenade.
Pezeshkian says US pressure, threats are derailing diplomacy
Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian believes the U.S. strategy of pressure and threats risks undermining diplomatic efforts to end the war in the Middle East.
"The lack of guarantees" ensuring U.S. compliance with the June memorandum of understanding "and a return to a policy of pressure and threats risks derailing the diplomatic process," Pezeshkian said at a Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Kyrgyzstan.

A ship was struck by three ‘unknown projectiles’ in Hormuz
A tanker was struck by three "unknown projectiles" while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on its outbound journey, the British Maritime and Transport Authority (UKMTO) announced.
"A tanker reported being struck by three unknown projectiles while completing an outbound transit of the Strait of Hormuz. No casualties or environmental impact have been reported," UKMTO wrote on X, specifying that the incident occurred 17 nautical miles (31 km) east of Khasab, Oman.
US Army Secretary resigned after months of tension with Hegseth, in the wake of new strikes on Iran
U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll has resigned after months of tension with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, the White House confirmed to AFP. The Wall Street Journal first reported the news, and several other U.S. media outlets picked it up.
When AFP contacted it, the White House did not deny the report.
"Secretary Driscoll has been extremely effective in advancing President Trump's agenda... providing outstanding leadership in historic military operations," the White House said in a statement. "The U.S. military is stronger than ever thanks to his work alongside the Commander-in-Chief and the Secretary of Defense," it continued.
Trump considering ‘limited strikes’ against Iran to prevent attacks in Hormuz, according to Axios
According to three U.S. officials cited by the news site Axios, U.S. President Donald Trump and his top advisors are considering "limited strikes" in the Strait of Hormuz to prevent Iran from rebuilding its radar and ballistic missile capabilities that would enable it to attack ships.
The specific objective would be to "reduce the risk of Iranian attacks against oil tankers, U.S. Navy ships, and U.S. Air Force aircraft," according to a U.S. official. US Central Command (CENTCOM) is reportedly concerned about Iran's efforts to rebuild its capabilities in the strait.
However, according to these officials, the White House still opposed authorizing these strikes last week to avoid escalation with Iran. The plan had been developed over the past week by the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) and backed by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. But the U.S. president could "now give his approval" after Monday's latest escalation, according to Axios. "The president retains all options," the White House stated.
According to CENTCOM estimates, the U.S. military could be forced to "periodically strike" Iran to continue removing "dozens of oil tankers" from the Gulf each day while maintaining relatively satisfactory security conditions.
Iran will ‘immediately’ respect its commitments if Washington does the same, says Pezeshkian
Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian says Tehran will "immediately" respect its own "commitments" if the United States "re-establishes" its own, as set out in a memorandum of understanding signed by the two sides in June, which collapsed the following month.
Pezeshkian made the remarks at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Bishkek, according to the Iranian news agency ISNA, as reported by Reuters.

South Lebanon: Large-Scale demolitions and phosphorus blasts in Nabatieh Fawqa
