In Kfar Roummane, the al-Zein family home, and its memories, lie in ruins
On May 9, an Israeli strike pulverized the heritage home of Saad al-Zein, the grandson of one of the thirteen drafters of the 1926 Constitution. Along with it, a part of the history of this village in the district of Nabatieh was lost.

It’s a road lined with eucalyptus trees that winds its way through the heart of the village of Kfar Roummane. From a distance, on the right, lies a pile of ruins and what remains of the garden of Aleppo pines that used to shade the property from the sky. Saad al-Zein gets out of his car and heads toward what was once the entrance, without a word. It’s the first time he has returned to his land in southern Lebanon since his house was destroyed.
