Since the announcement of the Lebanon and Israel framework agreement, Sunni MPs have fallen into an increasingly heavy silence. Yet, if the agreement is ultimately submitted to Parliament for a vote, their positions will be decisive, as they occupy a gray zone between the anti-Hezbollah camp — which mostly supports the agreement — and the Shiite duo as well as its allies who seek to block it. For now, however, the community’s leadership remains undecided, awaiting a signal from the Arab world, particularly Saudi Arabia.The framework agreement provides, among other things, for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from two "pilot zones" in occupied south Lebanon and their handover to the Lebanese Army.
