Is your favorite beach too polluted? Lebanon's National Council for Scientific Research (CNRS-L) has published its annual list of beach water quality, based on samples taken throughout the year. These analyses, as the director of the CNRS National Center for Marine Sciences (NCMS), Milad Fakhry, reminds us, reflect the level of bacteriological pollution along the coast, which is by far the most significant type (compared to chemical and/or industrial pollution, for example) due to the near absence of sewage treatment plants that are actually operational (or completely absent) along the Lebanese shoreline.The results of the 2026 study were announced Wednesday at the CNRS headquarters in Beirut, in the presence of Environment Minister Tamara Elzein, Tourism Minister Laura al-Khazen Lahoud, Transport Minister Fayez Rasamny, and CNRS...
