At Mission Art Gallery, Tracy Chamoun unveils what she has long kept hidden
For a long time, she wore the garments history tailored for her: those of mourning, politics, journalism and, later, diplomacy. The one she wore in private was the painter's smock.
Hailing from a prominent political Lebanese family, Tracy Chamoun refused to be defined simply as a “daughter of.” While the trauma of the assassination of her father, Dany Chamoun, on Oct. 21, 1990, alongside her two young half-brothers, can never truly be overcome, it pushed her to assume the role of family guardian at an early age. A champion of a sovereigntist and democratic political vision, she founded the Liberal Democrats of Lebanon party and served as Lebanon’s ambassador to Amman from June 2017 until August 2020.
