Israel invading troops are further advancing into Lebanese territory, despite of the negotiations underway between the two countries in Washington. None of these advances appear coincidental. Rather, they reflect a dual strategy: continuing psychological warfare while seizing strategic positions to create a "buffer zone" in south Lebanon emptied of its residents.Over the past week, however, Israeli strikes have intensified in the western Bekaa, hitting roads and infrastructure around the Qaraoun Dam and the lake. An environmental and humanitarian catastrophe was narrowly averted. On May 27, a drone strike near the dam killed a Lebanese Army soldier.
