General amnesty law: Mission accomplished for joint committees

Another Lebanese-style compromise. After several weeks of debate, the joint committees on Tuesday adopted a draft general amnesty law with amendments taking into account the demands of the parties involved in this process, including the Lebanese Army. Barring any last-minute surprises, the proposal should therefore be easily approved in Parliament during the plenary session scheduled for Thursday at 11 a.m.At the call of Parliament Speaker, Nabih Berri, the joint committees met Tuesday under the guidance of Parliament's number two, Elias Bou Saab, in the presence of MPs from the overwhelming majority of parliamentary blocs and the defense minister, Michel Menassa (a close ally of President Joseph Aoun).
