BEIRUT — Over 10,000 homes have been destroyed or damaged in Lebanon since the cease-fire between Hezbollah and Israel took effect, the National Council for Scientific Research (CNRS) said Wednesday.
Despite the truce, Israel continues its massive strikes, especially in southern Lebanon, while Hezbollah keeps claiming attacks on Israeli targets.
"Since the cease-fire ... we have found that 5,386 homes have been completely destroyed and 5,246 damaged," said CNRS director Chadi Abdallah at a press conference.
He also revealed that the number of Israeli attacks reached 8,200 between March 2 and April 16, 2026, while 3,318 violations of the truce were recorded between April 17 and May 11, in addition to 2,324 aerial violations, despite the cease-fire that took effect on April 17.
In a joint press conference with Social Affairs Minister Hanine Sayyed, Abdallah said the ten localities most affected by destruction between March 2 and May 8 are: Khiam (Marjayoun), Bint Jbeil, Zawtar al-Sharqieh, Kafra (Bint Jbeil), Yater, Taybeh (Marjayoun), Srifa, Mansouri (Sour), Habboush (Nabatieh), and Majdal Selm (Marjayoun).
He explained that the total number of residential units destroyed or damaged, totally or partially, stands at 230,436 since the 2023-2024 war and the subsequent violations. Between March 2 and May 8, 2026, this number reaches 61,056 units.
By district, Nabatieh district has seen the most residential units destroyed or damaged (9,972), followed by Sour (9,909) and Bint Jbeil (9,540). Baabda ranks fourth with 7,920 residential units destroyed or damaged.
After a deadly war in 2023-2024 that Hezbollah began on Oct. 8, 2023 in support of Gaza following the Hamas Islamist movement's attack on Israel, Hezbollah opened another front in southern Lebanon against Israel on March 2, after the killing of Iran's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, in U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran. Since then, Israel has pounded Lebanon, especially southern Lebanon, destroying entire villages.
