The Israeli military claimed on Wednesday morning that it had targeted and killed, the previous day in a strike on central Iran, the “head of the engineering branch of the Lebanon Corps under the Quds Force” of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Mehdi Vafaei, an engineer who led the “Lebanon Corps” for 20 years, reportedly managed projects related in particular to the development of tunnels in Lebanon and Syria.

The Mahallat region, where he was killed, is located in central Iran, about 200 kilometers southwest of Tehran.

Since the start of the regional war sparked by the U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran on Feb. 28, Israel has claimed to have killed several officials of this “Lebanon Corps,” which serves as a liaison between the Revolutionary Guards and Hezbollah, whether in Lebanon — as in its strike on the Ramada Hotel in Raouche, in central Beirut on March 7 — or in Tehran.
