A carefully timed session took place Tuesday in the U.S. Congress. On the issue of Lebanon, and particularly Hezbollah, the Foreign Affairs Committee listened to public policy recommendations by experts working with the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, a think tank seen as close to anti-Iranian and pro-Israeli "hawks."This meeting was held in parallel with Lebanese Army Commander Rodolph Haykal’s visit to the United States, as well as at a time when tensions between Iran and the U.S. threaten to provoke yet another regional upheaval.Entitled "U.S. Policy Toward Lebanon: Obstacles to Dismantling Hezbollah's Grip on Power," the hearing was an opportunity for its speakers to take a firm stance against Hezbollah, proposing policies to further weaken the party.
