Diaspora vote: A technical postponement all but certain, proposed ‘solutions’ abound

President Joseph Aoun said on Sunday that he was open to a postponement of the parliamentary elections by “a few months.” He thus effectively gave the green light to a scenario that has been circulating for months in political circles.In theory, everything seems to indicate that the ballot could be held in the summer, a way to resolve the political standoff over the mechanisms related to the expatriates voting or to allow non-residents to travel to Lebanon and cast their ballots during the summer break.But even as this solution appears increasingly likely, a technical committee prepared a report on how to implement Article 112 of the electoral law, which allows non-residents to vote from their countries of residence for six MPs representing the diaspora.
